Asaoyoru, who is writing one of my current favorite legacy’s, Music of Life, recently nominated me for a Liebster. Thank you, Yoru! 🙂 I don’t know about you, but I always feel incredibly happy and gratified when one of my favorite writers mentions my blog. Yoru’s story is filled with beautiful and unique Townies–so you can imagine how much I love it! Plus, in this game-driven story, she uses a delicate touch with her Sims, and in her writing, she provides insightful portraits. It’s a great study of just how individual our Sims can be.
- What are your favourite lyrics from any song?
I love this line from a song by Peter, Paul, and Mary:
“If I had wings, no one would ask me should I fly.”
- How do you write your stories? Laptop? Computer? Notebook?
Mostly laptop. I’m very attached to my laptop. It’s an old Toshiba that I bought shortly after Sims 2 Pets came out. It runs Windows Vista, and one-by-one, programs (like Origin and Chrome) no longer support the operating system. It’s missing the Q, T, U, and O keys–so to type them, I curve my fingers and press extra hard. It gives me an extra pause for thinking–and I love that. I will likely be supplementing this laptop with another one in order to play Sims 4 Cats and Dogs on it… Or maybe not! Maybe I’ll let my iMac be my new Sims station so I can go on writing on this little laptop forever and ever… Or at least as long as the sun still shines!
- What’s the most fulfilling thing you’ve ever done?
Oh, golly! Most fulfilling? When I was in tenth grade (about five lifetimes ago), I ran track. That was amazing! I was not fast and never even placed, but I found it so fulfilling to be on the team! Just now, I signed up to play in an adult chamber musicians group! That’s very fulfilling! But the most fulfilling thing? You know what? I think it is creating a home for my boyfriend and me and being able to create together a life that works for us. We’ve lived together for 37 years, and we’ve moved through lots of challenges. Now and then, like when we’re sipping coffee after breakfast, or when he comes out to bring me a cup of tea when I’m in the garden, this sweet breeze fills us, and I think it’s the whisper of fulfillment.
- Have you ever done something that felt good at the time, but that you regretted afterwards?
Oh, sure! I had the glutton trait as a child! So I would eat a dozen cookies and then, once the sugar rush wore off, I regretted it! 🙂 That experience taught me a lot, though–I learned that feeling badly afterwards is not worth the fun of the moment! I’m grateful that’s a lesson I learned as a child!
- Name one line from one SimLit story that inspired you!
I find Mackie/Pegasus143’s writing very inspiring. Letters to my Younger Self has an inward look that gets me every time, and I love this line from “Pulling Up Water“:
The well wasn’t dry yet- I was just choosing when to pull up water.
- If you could name yourself, what would you be called in real life?
I like my first and last names a lot, and I feel they fit. My middle name is Gail, and I really wish that it could be “Grace,” because grace is one of my favorite things!
- Do you like art? Who’s your favourite artist?
Oh, yes! I think that Martin Stanev is my favorite artist. He’s a beautiful person, and I love him very much!
- Do you have a save where there’s this one townie you absolutely love? Who is it?
Oh, my goodness! Do you know how much I love Townies? Why, your Sierra is one of my all-time favorite Sims, and I really love Baby in ceceroses’s Dreams and Drama rotation. And in my games! In my games, every single one has loads of Townies I love! Forgotten Art has Giuliana Kruse, Ira and Aari, Mizuki Suzuki, and Youssef, and even Jenna! New World has Jaclyn Ball and so many others! Goofy Love had Paris, Princess, Miracle, and every amazing legacy spouse! Thirty Sims at Three Rivers had Townies for most of the cast! And Townie Town is all Townies! I think Townies are miracles: Each one is one-of-a-kind, never to be repeated.
- How do you come up with characters?
In SimLit, I really just watch the Sims closely and then try to present them as faithfully as I can. The spirit comes from them. In my nonSim fiction, the characters seem to come from the story itself–or rather, from the meaning that is expressing itself through the story.
- Do you prefer sunshine or rain?
When I lived in Seattle, I preferred sunshine! Now that I live in the desert, I prefer rain!
- What’s your favourite smell?
Rain in the desert!
Thanks again for the nomination, Yoru! I will be making my Summer 2017 nominations soon! 🙂
