GloPoWriMo – Song 4

Closing Rifts in Time

I live outside
of chronology–
Meridia’s touch
ensured that.

This doesn’t mean
my life has
no beginning,
no end.

It means I
stand outside
in gold light
while the passage
of shadow
and sun
shift all around–
without,
not within.

To close a rift
in time,
find where
the story
wobbles.

Does father
call?

Does my mother
carve the sweet
pumpkin?

I hear Razum-Dar purr
and the Green Lady
shout–

“For the Queen!
For the Queen!
For the Queen!”

For the queen,
the tendrils twist
and pull me
back.

Tomorrow is
as yesterday.

It takes
longer to
find a
rift

than
it
does
to
close

one.

And to close them all takes
a lifetime.

Daily Prompt: “write something that involves a story or action that unfolds over an appreciable length of time,” from Na/GloPoWriMo.
