GloPoWriMo – Day 5

In It Together

a cell in the toe
vibrates at the same rate
as a cell in the heart.

distance doesn’t matter–
they share the same thought.
the scent of orange blossoms
as sweet to each.

–do you see the purple song
of the mockingbird
from your garden
across the street?

“WTF!” shouts Carrie, on E. Third St.
“I am SO ALONE!”

but I hear her
from my garden perch

“Miss ya,” I whisper, unheard,
causing her to scream
and slam her kitchen door.

the big toe of time
kicks the workweek
to shambles.

I want to walk into
the street and
hug the first stranger.

“Cath, will you pick the loud flower?”

One day, we will breathe the same air.

en eso juntos

“One day, it’s like a miracle. It will disappear.”

The virus laughs.

The wings of a bat
the spread of my toes.

Daily Prompt: write a poem following Jim Simmerman’s “Twenty Little Poetry Projects,” which is a list of 20 features to include in a poem. Check it out on Na/GloPoWriMo.

(Yes! I fit in all twenty! The piece of talk, in dialect, which I’ve actually heard but don’t understand? “Miss ya.” I just don’t quite comprehend the concept of missing someone. It’s an autistic thing.)
